Attachment ZIP Export for Jira

Documentation · Jira Cloud · Provider: GRAMSHIFT · Last updated: 2026-10-15

Download all attachments from many Jira issues at once: find the issues with JQL or a saved filter and save their files as one ZIP. Each issue gets its own folder (for example ABC-123/report.pdf), files keep their original names, and a CSV list of every file is included. Works with Jira Software and Jira Service Management projects. The ZIP is built in your browser; issue data and files are never sent to GRAMSHIFT or to third parties.

Attachment ZIP Export for Jira: download attachments from a JQL search as one ZIP, with a folder per issue, original names and a CSV list

Getting started

  1. A Jira admin installs the app from the Atlassian Marketplace. No configuration is needed.
  2. Open it from the Jira sidebar: Apps → Attachment ZIP Export.
  3. Find issues. Pick a saved filter, type a JQL search, or paste the address of a Jira search page (for example …/issues/?jql=… or …/issues/?filter=10042), which is turned into the same JQL. Leave the field empty to find every issue that has attachments.
project = ABC ORDER BY key
    project = SUP AND created >= -30d
    key in (ABC-12, ABC-15)
    filter = 10042
Press Find attachments. Only issues that have attachments are read. The screen shows how many files were found, on how many issues, and their total size.
  4. Choose files (optional). See Choosing files.
  5. Download. Choose whether to use one folder per issue and whether to include the file list, and the largest size of each ZIP file. Press Download ZIP. The screen shows progress, and Cancel stops it.

You see only the issues and attachments that your own Jira permissions allow. The app cannot change issues.

Choosing files

OptionWhat it does
File typesImages (png, jpg, gif, svg and other image formats), Documents (pdf, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, csv and similar) and Other files (everything else, for example zip archives and videos). All three are checked at first.
Only these extensionsKeep only files with these extensions, separated by commas, for example pdf, png, xlsx. Leave empty to keep all.
Added betweenKeep only files added to Jira in this date range. Dates use the time zone of your Jira profile (the same dates Jira shows you); its UTC offset is shown under the fields.
Skip files larger thanLeave out files larger than this many MB.
Search the listShow only files whose name, whose “added by” name, or whose issue key or summary contains what you type. Upper and lower case do not matter.
The file listEvery file that passes the options above is listed with its issue, summary, file name, size, date added and who added it, 100 rows per page. Tick or untick single files; Select all and Clear all act on every listed file on all pages. Unticked files stay unticked when you change the options.

The number of files, issues and the total size follow your choice as you type and tick. A value the app cannot read (for example letters in a size field) is outlined in red and the download waits until it is fixed.

Inside the ZIP

The file list (CSV)

With Include a list of the files checked (default), the ZIP contains attachment-list.csv (UTF-8, opens in Excel), one row per file:

ColumnContent
Issue key, Issue summaryThe issue the file is attached to
File name, Path in ZIP, ZIP fileThe name in Jira, where it is in the ZIP, and which ZIP file it is in
Size (bytes)The file size
AddedWhen the file was added to Jira, in the time zone of your Jira profile (the column heading shows its UTC offset)
Added byWho added the file
Result, ReasonDownloaded, or Not downloaded with the reason (for example no permission, the file no longer exists in Jira, or larger than 50 MB)

When the download is split, each part has its own list (attachment-list-part1.csv, …) and the last part also has attachment-list-all-parts.csv for the whole download. Values that start with =, +, - or @ are written so that Excel shows them as text and never runs them as formulas.

Questions and troubleshooting

How do I download all attachments from Jira issues at once?

Open Apps → Attachment ZIP Export in Jira, type a JQL search, pick a saved filter or paste the address of a Jira search, press Find attachments, then press Download ZIP. Every attachment on the issues you found is saved in one ZIP file, with one folder per issue and a CSV list of the files. Leave the search empty to get every issue that has attachments.

How do I bulk download the attachments of a whole Jira project as a ZIP?

Search for the project, for example project = ABC ORDER BY key, and press Find attachments. The app reads only the issues that have attachments and shows how many files there are and their total size. Press Download ZIP. If the download is larger than the ZIP size you chose (500 MB by default), it is saved as several ZIP files, part 1, part 2 and so on.

Are the files saved in a folder per issue with their original names?

Yes. With One folder per issue checked (the default), files are saved as ABC-123/report.pdf under the name they have in Jira. If two files in the same folder have the same name, the second is saved as report (2).pdf, so nothing is overwritten. Uncheck the option to put all files in the top of the ZIP.

Can I download attachments from Jira Service Management tickets?

Yes. Service management projects are searched with JQL like any other project, for example project = SUP AND created >= -30d. You get the attachments that your own Jira permissions let you see.

Can I download only some of the files, for example only PDFs?

Yes. After Find attachments, every file is listed with its issue, file name, size, date added and who added it. Tick or untick single files, use Select all or Clear all, and search the list by file name, by who added it, or by issue key and summary. You can also choose file types (images, documents, other files), type extensions such as pdf, png, enter a date range for when the files were added, or skip files larger than a size you enter. The number of files and the total size follow your choice.

Can I paste the address of a Jira search?

Yes. Paste the address of a Jira issue search (for example …/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20ABC) or of a saved filter (…/issues/?filter=10042) into the JQL field. The app turns it into the same JQL and uses it.

What is in the CSV list?

One row per file: issue key, issue summary, file name, path in the ZIP, ZIP file name, size in bytes, date added, who added it, result and, for files that could not be downloaded, the reason. It opens in Excel.

Which time zone are the dates in?

The time zone of your Jira profile, the same one Jira uses to show you dates. The date filter, the file list on the screen and the CSV all use it, and the CSV column heading shows the UTC offset.

Is my Jira data sent anywhere?

No. The app only reads Jira, using your own Jira permissions, and cannot change issues. The ZIP file is built in your browser; issue data and files are never sent to GRAMSHIFT or to third parties.

Why were no issues with attachments found?

None of the issues that match your search has attachments. Check that the search finds the issues you expect in Jira’s issue search, or paste the address of that search into the JQL field to use exactly the same search.

Why does a file say “Not downloaded” in the CSV list?

The Reason column says why, for example no permission, the file no longer exists in Jira, or the file is larger than 50 MB. Files over 50 MB are listed so you can download them directly from the issue. The other files are still saved. If Jira was busy and some files could not be downloaded, press the button to try the failed files again: only those files are fetched into a separate ZIP with the same folders.

Why does my browser ask to allow multiple downloads?

When a download is split into several ZIP files, they are saved one after another. Allow it once. If a part was blocked, allow multiple downloads for the page and press Download ZIP again.

Why do I see “Your license is not active”?

Ask a Jira admin to check the app under Manage apps.
