Agent Eyes lets an AI coding agent see the IDE, run safe IDE commands, and prove that tests really ran. It adds tools to the IDE's built-in MCP server, so any agent connected to that server (any MCP client) can call them. No separate server or account is needed, and the plugin itself makes no network connections.
| Tool | What it returns |
|---|---|
ide_screenshot | Saves a PNG of the IDE window, the active editor, or one tool window (Run, Problems View, Terminal…) and returns the file path, plus which tool windows and dialogs are open and which file is active. With the whole window, open dialogs are drawn on top, and it works while a dialog is open. |
ide_find_actions | Ids and names of allowed IDE actions that match the given words (and how many matching actions are not allowed). |
ide_invoke_action | Runs an allowed action in the project's active editor and reports whether the IDE accepted it. Only formatting, optimize imports, build, save, sync and build reload, navigation and opening tool windows are allowed; actions that change version-control history, publish, delete or run code are refused, and nothing runs while a dialog is open. |
check_test_reports | Reads JUnit XML reports: Gradle build/test-results, Maven Surefire/Failsafe, and files named like junit*.xml (pytest --junitxml, jest-junit); other reports can be passed as a path inside the project. First line: PASSED, FAILED, 0 TESTS RAN, all skipped, NO TEST REPORTS FOUND, or STALE when source code changed after the newest report. Failing tests are listed by name. |
task_lock_acquire / task_lock_release / task_lock_list | A named lock shared by every agent session on the computer. Returns ACQUIRED or HELD (by whom, until when). Locks expire on their own. |
The plugin itself makes no network connections. Its tools return their results (screenshot file paths, open windows and dialog titles, open files, IDE action names, test report summaries, lock holders) to the agent you connected, which may send them on to its own service. If an error occurs inside the plugin, the IDE may offer to send an error report to JetBrains Marketplace (or sends it automatically if you turned on automatic error reporting in the IDE); for the failures the plugin detects itself, such a report holds only the kind of error and where in the plugin's code it happened. Screenshots are saved only in the system temp folder (agent-eyes, newest 50 kept); locks are small files in ~/.agent-eyes/locks.
