Please include your Windows version (Settings > System > About), your Stream Deck app version, the name of the game or app, whether it runs as administrator, how many screens you use and their scaling, and a photo or screenshot of the key and of its settings (the Status line says what the plugin sees).
WINDOWED for that window and Restore Windows shows 0, the plugin no longer knows the window. This can happen when the plugin was ended by force and the window was then changed by something else. Closing the program and starting it again normally gives you a new window; we have not checked this for particular programs, and some programs remember the size of their last window.WINDOWED.While the Stream Deck app itself is in front, the keys show --: the plugin never changes the Stream Deck app's own window.
A press of Borderless Fullscreen or Borderless Window while a window the plugin already changed is in front always puts that window back first. To go from one to the other, press twice.
The plugin asks Windows to change two things of the window: its frame styles (the title bar and the sizing border are switched off) and its position and size. Before that it reads and keeps the styles, position, size and placement (normal position, maximized or not) the window had. Then it reads the window again, and only if Windows reports no frame and exactly the rectangle asked for does the key say FULL or NO FRAME.
FAILED. If the program changes the window again later, the key says CHANGED, and the next press puts the window back as it was before the plugin touched it.FAILED for such a window, with the window left as it was. We have not tested this case.NO ANSWER).| Event | What happens |
|---|---|
| The Stream Deck app closes its connection to the plugin (it quits, or restarts the plugin) | The plugin puts every changed window back, then ends. In our test the window was back as before and the plugin process had ended 27 milliseconds after the connection closed. (Tested by closing the connection from a test host, not by quitting the Stream Deck app itself.) |
| The plugin process is ended by force (Task Manager, a crash) | Nothing runs any more that could put the windows back: they stay without a frame. The list of changed windows is kept by the Stream Deck app. When the plugin starts again, it takes over the windows of that list that are still open, belong to the same process and still have no frame; a Restore Windows key then counts them and puts them back. (Tested by killing the plugin process and starting it again under a test host.) |
| You switch to another Stream Deck page or profile | Nothing: changed windows stay as they are, so that a profile that switches with the game does not undo full screen. Put a Restore Windows key where you can reach it. |
| A changed window is closed | It leaves the count. If Windows gives its handle number to another window later, the plugin notices (another process or window class) and does not touch that window. |
| A changed window is minimized when it is put back | It stays minimized and gets its frame back; when you show it again it is where it was, maximized if it was maximized. |
Tested on one PC (Windows 11, one 1920 x 1080 screen at 100 % scaling), with the plugin as shipped running on the Node.js of Stream Deck 7.6, on a plain resizable test window that belongs to another process: Borderless Fullscreen (the window and its inside were exactly the screen, read by a separate process), putting it back (styles, position, size and placement identical), the same from a maximized window (maximized again afterwards, same normal position), Borderless Window with "keep the size" (the inside did not move), the connection closing, and a kill followed by a restart and Restore Windows. Putting back a changed window while it is minimized was tested with the same Windows calls outside the plugin.
Not tested: any particular game or app; exclusive full-screen games; a program running as administrator; apps from the Microsoft Store; more than one screen and screens with different scaling on a real PC (the plugin works in real pixels per screen and this path is covered by automated tests with simulated screens only); scaling other than 100 %; HDR and variable refresh rate; whether a game runs faster or slower this way; anti-cheat software; quitting the real Stream Deck app while a window is changed; Windows 10; ARM PCs.
| Key | Meaning |
|---|---|
Dark, window name, WINDOWED, size | The window in front has not been changed by the plugin. The size is the inside of the window. |
Green, window name, FULL | Read back from Windows: the window in front has no frame and is exactly on the rectangle the plugin gave it. |
Green, window name, NO FRAME | The same for a window changed with Borderless Window. |
Amber frame, CHANGED "press to restore" | The plugin changed this window, and the program or Windows changed it again since (a frame, another position or size). A press puts back what it had before the plugin touched it. |
Gray, -- "no window in front" | Nothing a press would change is in front (the desktop, the taskbar, the Stream Deck app). |
Amber frame, FAILED "window refused" | The window did not take the new frame or size; it was put back as it was. |
Amber frame, NO WINDOW, MINIMIZED, NO ANSWER, ALREADY, BAD SIZE | Why the press did nothing: no window to change, the window is minimized, its program does not answer, it already has no frame and is already there, or the width and height in the settings can not be used. |
| Restore Windows: a number | How many windows are changed by the plugin now (green when more than 0). After a press: DONE, or FAILED with the number that could not be put back (they stay in the count; press again later). |
Amber frame, -- "reinstall plugin" | The plugin could not load its Windows part. Remove the plugin in the Stream Deck app and install it again from the Elgato Marketplace. |
The picture is stretched, or has black bars, after going full screen.
The game still renders at its old window size or keeps its aspect ratio. Use the game's own borderless option if it has one, or set the game's windowed resolution to your screen's resolution first.
The title bar is still there.
The program draws its own title bar inside the window. The plugin can only switch off the frame that Windows draws.
The key shows the name of another window than my game.
The key shows the window that is in front at that moment, which is the one a press acts on. Click the game first.
Can it make a game full screen automatically when it starts?
Not in this version. A window is only changed when you press a key.
Does it work on Mac?
No. This plugin is for Windows 10 and 11 only.
To show the name of the window in front, the plugin reads window titles on your PC. Nothing is sent to us or to any online service. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is read and what is kept.
