Contact

If something doesn't work, email contact@gramshift.com in English or Japanese — every message is read. We reply within 7 business days, usually sooner. Please include whether you fly Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or 2020 (and from Steam or the Microsoft Store), the aircraft you were flying, your Windows version, your Stream Deck app version, the text of the "Status" line in the key's settings, and, if possible, a photo or screenshot of the key and of its settings. Ideas for new keys are welcome too.

Getting started

  1. Start Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or 2020 on the same Windows PC as the Stream Deck app.
  2. Drag the keys you want from the plugin's category onto your Stream Deck. They connect by themselves through SimConnect: nothing to install in the Community folder, no add-on and no file to edit.
  3. For Light, Autopilot, Flaps and Transponder, choose in the key's settings which light, which autopilot mode, which flap direction or what a press does. Drag the same key again for another one (for example one Light key each for landing, taxi, strobe, beacon and nav lights).
  4. The Status line in each key's settings says whether the sim is found and which aircraft is loaded.

Each press sends the sim's own key event, so your keyboard and joystick bindings stay as they are, and presses work while the sim is in the background. When you quit or restart the sim, the keys connect again by themselves.

The keys

KeyShowsPress
Landing GearA lamp for each gear leg: green down, red moving, dark up; DOWN, UP or TRANSIT; the gear lever position. FIXED for aircraft with fixed gear.Gear up or down
FlapsUP, the percent or FULL, a bar (MOVING while the flaps travel) and a white mark where the flap lever is.Flaps down a notch, or up a notch (in the settings)
SpoilersARMED, RETRACTED or EXT with the percent.Spoilers in or out
Parking BrakeBRAKES: SET (red) or OFF.Parking brake on or off
LightLanding, taxi, strobe, beacon or nav lights: ON (yellow) or OFF.That light on or off
AutopilotAP, HDG, ALT, NAV, APR or V/S: green ON when the mode holds, white ARMED while it waits to capture, OFF; the selected heading, altitude or vertical speed; on the AP key, whether the flight director is on.That autopilot mode
TransponderThe squawk code (7500, 7600 and 7700 in red) and the mode; IDENT while it is squawking ident.STBY / ALT (from STBY or OFF to ALT, from any other mode to STBY), or IDENT (in the settings)
AirspeedIndicated airspeed and ground speed, in knots, km/h or mph.-
AltitudeIndicated altitude and vertical speed, in feet or meters.-
FuelFuel on board (pounds or kilograms) and the time it lasts at the fuel flow of all engines. Orange with less than the warning time left (30 minutes unless you change it, from 1 to 600), red with less than half of it, EMPTY at zero. "no fuel flow" while the engines burn nothing; NONE "no fuel system" on an aircraft that carries no fuel, such as a glider.-
HeadingMagnetic heading and the autopilot heading bug.-
Next WaypointThe GPS destination, the distance and the time to go. NO WAYPOINT without a GPS destination.-
Custom KeyYour label, and the SimVar (for example GENERAL ENG RPM:1 with the unit rpm) or local variable (L:name) you enter, as ON / OFF (any value but 0 is ON) or as a number with 0 to 3 decimals. The key event you enter (for example TOGGLE_MASTER_BATTERY), with its value when it takes one

Switch keys show what the sim reports, so they stay right when you use the mouse, a joystick button or another panel. A short white frame shows that the sim took your press.

Aircraft with their own systems

The built-in keys work with aircraft that use the standard SimVars and key events of the SimConnect documentation. Some aircraft (often detailed third-party aircraft) use their own systems for some instruments or switches, so a built-in key may not follow them. For those, use the Custom Key: enter the key event and the variable (a SimVar, or a local variable L:name) that the aircraft documents. Controls that need an add-on inside the sim (WASM, such as H: events) are not supported.

A SimVar the sim does not know shows "?" (variable not found) on that key only; every other key keeps working. A local variable that the aircraft does not have reads 0, as the sim reports it.

Messages on the keys

MessageWhat it means / what to do
NO SIMThe sim is not running. Start Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or 2020: the keys connect by themselves.
NO ANSWERThe sim is running, but SimConnect does not answer yet. It opens while the sim starts, at the latest at its main menu; the keys connect by themselves.
NOT FOUNDSimConnect was not found. If the sim is not running, start it. If it runs and its main menu is up, a SimConnect.cfg file in your user folder or in the Stream Deck folder may point to another computer or port.
BLOCKEDSimConnect refused the connection. This happens when only one of the sim and the Stream Deck app runs as administrator: run both the same way.
CONNECTINGThe sim answered and the keys are connecting.
NOT FLYINGConnected; the sim is in its menus or loading a flight. The keys show the values as soon as you fly.
NO DATAThe sim does not have the values this key shows. The Status line names them.
? (variable not found)Custom Key: the sim does not know the SimVar you entered. Check its name and index.
NAME? / SET UPCustom Key: the key event or variable is not a name, or nothing is entered yet.
NOT CONNECTED / NO EVENT / NOT TAKEN / NO REPLY (red frame)A press could not be sent: the sim is not connected, the sim does not have that key event, the sim refused it, or the sim did not answer in time.

Questions

Do I need to install anything in the sim?

No. The keys talk to the sim through SimConnect, which Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020 open for programs on the same PC. Nothing goes in the Community folder.

Does it work with the Xbox console?

No. It needs the sim on a Windows PC, with the Stream Deck connected to that PC.

Does it work with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

Yes. It works with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and 2020.

Can I use my own build of the SimConnect library the plugin uses?

Yes. The plugin includes node-simconnect 4.2.1 (LGPL-3.0-or-later) as separate, unmodified files with its source code. See "Using your own version of the library" in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the plugin folder. SimConnect.dll is not included.

Requirements

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 or 2020 on a Windows PC; Stream Deck app 6.9 or later on Windows 10 or later, on the same computer as the sim.
