Ideas and bug reports

Email contact@gramshift.com in English or Japanese. Ideas for new keys and looks are welcome, and every message is read. For a bug, please include your Windows version (Settings > System > About), whether you use Wi-Fi or a cable, your Stream Deck app version and model, and a screenshot of the key's settings page (its Status line says what the key is pinging and what it found).

Get started

  1. In the Stream Deck app, find Ping and Lag Check for Windows in the action list.
  2. Drag Ping Graph onto a key. It shows your ping to 1.1.1.1 right away. In its settings, pick Your router, 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8 or Another address (an IP address or a host name, such as your game server), and optionally a short Name on key.
  3. Drag Lag Check onto a key. After a few seconds it says ALL GOOD, HOME or INTERNET.
  4. For a wider graph, drag more Ping Graph keys next to it in the same row with the same settings. They join into one graph.

Ping Graph

Lag Check: where is the lag?

Lag Check pings your router and an internet address (1.1.1.1 unless you pick another) together, once a second, and compares the last 30 seconds. The internet address says whether there is lag; the router says on which side it starts.

The key saysWhat it meansWhat to try first
ALL GOODThe internet answers quickly and reliably. If the line under it says router slow (normal) or router gives no ping, your router answers pings to itself slowly or not at all; every ping to the internet passes through it, so your Wi-Fi and router are working. Many routers answer pings to themselves last.If a game still lags, the game's own server may be busy: point a Ping Graph key at it.
HOME (Wi-Fi or router)The internet lags, and your router is slow, loses pings or jumps around too. The problem starts between your PC and your router.Move closer to the router, use a cable, or restart the router.
INTERNET (provider or beyond)The internet lags, but your router is fine. The problem starts past your router.Check your provider's status page, or contact your provider.
LAGGINGThe internet lags, and there is no router to compare with: your router ignores pings, or the route has no router (as with some VPNs).If your router answers pings, type its address in the settings.
OFFLINE (Wi-Fi or cable)Windows has no route to the internet, and the internet address does not answer.Check Wi-Fi or the cable.

The two rows under the verdict show the ping to the router and to the internet address, with small graphs. Press for the numbers of the last 30 seconds and your router's address; hold for the next period of the small graphs.

How it decides: the internet counts as lagging from 5% loss (at least 2 lost pings), from the ms you pick (100 ms unless you change it), or from 20 ms of jitter. Then the router decides the side: it counts as bad from 5% loss, 20 ms or 10 ms of jitter. After a change of network (a reconnect, another Wi-Fi) the key counts the 30 seconds afresh, and it waits for 10 pings on each side before its first verdict.

Looks

Classic (a line on dark gray), Neon (a glowing line on dark blue), Bars (columns), Solid (the whole key in the level color) and Grid (a Task Manager style grid). Classic, Neon, Bars and Solid use the same colors as our System Monitor for Windows keys.

Limitations

Privacy

The plugin sends one small ping a second only to your router and the addresses you pick, and keeps the results in memory on your PC. Nothing is sent to GRAMSHIFT or anyone else. Full details: Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

The key showsWhat it means
starting… / CHECKINGThe first pings are on their way; the numbers appear within a few seconds.
NO ROUTERWindows' route to the internet has no router to ping: the PC is not connected, or the route goes without one (as with some VPNs).
NOT FOUNDThe host name could not be looked up. Check the spelling in the settings.
IPv4 ONLY / CHECK ADDRESS / SET ADDRESSThe typed address is an IPv6 address, is not an address, or is empty.
Keys side by side show separate graphsOnly keys in the same row, right next to each other, with the same address, name, period, look and colors join.
Windows onlyThe plugin works on Windows.

Compatibility

Windows 10 or later (tested on Windows 11), Stream Deck 6.9 or later. Works on keys. No administrator rights needed.
