Get started

Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, find Recycle Bin & Drive Space in the action list and drag an action onto a key.
Click the key to see its settings. For Drive Space, choose a drive (the default is the Windows drive); the round arrow button reads the list again (for example after you plugged in a USB drive).

The actions

Recycle Bin: the key shows how many items are in the Recycle Bins of all drives and their total size. A press opens the Recycle Bin. Holding the key for 1 second empties the Recycle Bins of all drives. By default Windows asks you first; set Before emptying to do not ask to empty at once, or set Hold 1 s to do nothing to turn emptying off. Emptied items are deleted for good and can not be restored.
Drive Space: the key shows the free space of the drive in GB or TB (1 GB = 1024 MB, as File Explorer shows it), the free part in percent (rounded down) and as a bar. It turns red under the limit you choose in Red under (default 10%). A press opens the drive in File Explorer.

What the keys show

Key	Meaning
Gray `0`, "empty"	The Recycle Bin is empty.
Yellow frame and number	Items are in the Recycle Bin; the line below is their total size.
Green, `EMPTIED`	Held: the Recycle Bin was emptied and is empty now.
Number, "not emptied"	Held: Windows asked and nothing was deleted (you answered No). Nothing is wrong.
Red, `NOT ALL`, "items left"	Held: Windows did not delete some items (usually a file in use or without permission). The key then shows the items that are left.
Red, `FAILED`, "not changed" / "still there"	Windows refused to empty the Recycle Bin, or reported success while the items are still there. After a few seconds the key shows the state Windows reports.
Free space, white	The free space of the drive, above your limit.
Red free space	The free space is under the limit you chose.
Red, drive letter, "not connected"	The drive is not on the PC now (a USB drive pulled out, a network drive disconnected). A press does nothing until it is back.
Red, `--`, "not readable"	Windows did not report the Recycle Bin or the free space (for example a DVD drive with no disc). The plugin shows no state rather than a wrong one.
Red, `--`, "reinstall plugin"	The plugin could not load its Windows part. Remove the plugin in the Stream Deck app and install it again from the Elgato Marketplace.

Questions

Can I get emptied items back?
No. Emptying the Recycle Bin deletes the items for good, the same as "Empty Recycle Bin" in File Explorer. Keep Before emptying on Windows asks me if you want a last check, or set Hold 1 s to do nothing.

Can it empty the Recycle Bin of one drive only?
No. The key counts and empties the Recycle Bins of all drives together, like the Recycle Bin on the desktop.

The size differs a little from File Explorer.
The plugin shows what Windows reports at that moment, rounded down (for example 9.95 GB shows as 9.9 GB). A file deleted a moment ago shows within 3 seconds.

Does it work with USB and network drives?
Yes. Every drive with a letter can be chosen. A drive that is pulled out shows "not connected" and comes back when it is plugged in again.

Does it work on Mac?
No. This plugin is for Windows 10 and 11 only.
