Product page: VPN Switch for Windows
Email contact@gramshift.com in English or Japanese. We reply within 7 business days, usually sooner. Please include your Windows version, your Stream Deck app version, which VPN you use, and a photo or screenshot of the key and of its settings (the Status line says what the key sees). Please do not send VPN passwords, keys or config files.
Under When it drops you can choose to turn the key red when the VPN goes off without a press on this key, or to just show off. Under Look you can choose Classic, Neon, Ring, Bars or Solid.
ALLOW, so use the key to turn it on and off.| Key | Meaning |
|---|---|
ON, "active" | The VPN's network adapter has an address: the VPN is on. If the server stops answering while the adapter stays up, the key still shows ON. |
OFF, "inactive" | The VPN is off. |
Red, OFF, "dropped" | The VPN went off without this key. Press the key to clear the red. On VPN Switch, the press also connects again if the key is set to connect or disconnect. |
OFF, "no VPN on" | VPN Status with any VPN: no VPN on this PC is on. |
..., "connecting" or "disconnecting" | The key asked the VPN and is waiting for the result. |
VPN, "see settings" | Choose your VPN in the key's settings. |
NAME?, "see settings" | Enter the name of the tunnel, connection or config in the key's settings. |
NO VPN, "not installed" | This VPN is not installed on this PC in its usual folder. |
LOG IN, "in the VPN app" | This PC is logged out of the VPN. Log in once in its app; the key then works. |
OPEN APP, "VPN app closed" | Tailscale: its app is closed. Open it, then press the key. |
ALLOW, "see settings" | WireGuard: Windows has to allow this key to switch this tunnel, once. Click Allow in the key's settings and answer Yes. |
SIGN IN, "in the window" | Windows VPN: Windows' own window is open. Press Connect or sign in there. |
FAILED, "see settings" | The VPN did not answer as expected. Open its app to see why, then press the key again. |
Which VPNs can the key connect and disconnect?
Tailscale, WireGuard, OpenVPN (OpenVPN Community with OpenVPN GUI) and the connections in Windows Settings. For another VPN app, the VPN Status key shows whether it is on when it recognizes the adapter, or when you pick the adapter under Watch. The app has to add a network adapter to Windows.
My VPN app is not in the list. Can you add it?
Write to us with its name. We add the most requested ones in updates.
VPN Status says OFF although my VPN is on.
Under Watch, choose your VPN's adapter from the list. The any VPN setting goes by the adapter's name and description, and some VPN apps use names the plugin cannot recognize.
Why does Windows ask for permission for WireGuard?
Starting and stopping a tunnel normally takes administrator rights. Clicking Allow gives your Windows user the rights to start and stop that one tunnel, so the key does not ask again unless the tunnel is turned off in the WireGuard window.
It says "That did not work" when I click Allow.
Check that the name matches the WireGuard window exactly. If it does, turn the tunnel on once in the WireGuard window, then click Allow again. Windows only knows the tunnel after that.
Why does a Windows VPN open a window?
Windows only connects by itself when it already has everything it needs. If it has to ask for something, it opens its own window. Press Connect there. The plugin never sees what you type in that window.
Does it work when my VPN app is closed?
Reading on or off does. WireGuard runs in the background of Windows, so its key also switches with the WireGuard window closed. Tailscale and OpenVPN GUI have to be running.
Can it see my traffic or passwords?
No. It only reads whether the adapter is on and asks your VPN program to connect or disconnect.
Does it work on Mac?
No. This plugin is for Windows 10 and 11 only.
The plugin runs on your PC and sends no data to us or to any online service. See the Privacy Policy.
