Email contact@gramshift.com in English or Japanese. We reply within 7 business days, usually sooner. Please include your Windows version, your Stream Deck app version, your graphics card, how your monitors are connected (for example two by DisplayPort, one TV by HDMI), and a photo or screenshot of the key and of its settings (the Status line says what Windows answered).

Save a layout

  1. Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, find Display Layout Switcher in the action list and drag Save Profile onto a key.
  2. Arrange your monitors the way you want in Windows (Settings > System > Display): which monitors are on, where they are, resolution, refresh rate, rotation, HDR, and the main (primary) display.
  3. Give the key a Layout name, for example Desk, and press it. The key shows SAVED. To save over a layout with the same name, press the key twice (the first press only asks, AGAIN).
  4. Do the same for your other layouts (for example Game with only the fast monitor on, or TV).

Switch to a layout

  1. Drag Switch Profile onto a key and pick the Layout. A key whose layout is in use has a green frame and says ACTIVE.
  2. Press the key twice: the first press only asks (AGAIN, blue), so a stray press changes nothing. You can set Press to once in the key's settings.
  3. The layout changes, and the key counts down 15 seconds: KEEP?. Press the key once more to keep the new layout. It is then also saved in Windows' own display settings.
  4. If you do not press it in time, the previous layout comes back by itself (REVERTED). This is on purpose: if a monitor stays black after a change (for example a refresh rate it does not accept), you can still see the key, or simply wait.

Cycle Profiles works the same way and goes to the next of the layouts you check, after the one in use. Set Primary makes the chosen monitor the primary display and keeps the monitors' places relative to each other.

Only one change at a time: while a key counts down, the other keys of this plugin show WAIT, and pressing them only shows the warning triangle. Only the key that made the change can keep it.

What the key shows

KeyMeaning
Green frame, ACTIVE / PRIMARYThis layout is in use / this monitor is the primary display.
Blue, AGAINFirst press: press again within 3 seconds to go ahead.
Blue, KEEP? and a numberThe new layout is on. Press within that many seconds to keep it.
Green, KEPTKept and saved in Windows.
Gray, REVERTEDNot kept in time; the previous layout is back.
Red, MISSINGA monitor of this layout is not connected (its name is shown). Nothing was changed: the plugin never applies half a layout.
Red, REFUSED and a codeWindows checked the layout and refused it before anything changed. Usually a monitor no longer offers a saved resolution or refresh rate (for example after a driver update or with another cable). Save the layout again.
Red, FAILEDWindows could not apply the layout, applied something else than saved (another refresh rate), or refused HDR. The plugin went back to the previous layout at once; the second line says whether that worked.
Red, could not go backRare: the previous layout could not be restored. Open Windows display settings (Win+P or Settings > System > Display).
Red, no accessWindows did not give the display layout (error 5). This happens on the lock screen and in some remote desktop sessions.

Common questions

Does it need administrator rights?
No. It uses the same Windows function as the Windows Settings app, as your user.

A saved layout says MISSING although the monitor is on.
Layouts remember each monitor by the identifier Windows gives it, which includes the connector. A monitor on another port or through another dock may get a new identifier. If exactly one connected monitor has the same model and connector, or the same model alone, it is used; otherwise save the layout again.

Two identical monitors.
They are told apart by their Windows identifiers (connector). If you swap their cables, save your layouts again.

What is not restored?
Display scaling (the percentage), color profiles, night light and the brightness of a monitor are not part of a layout. Windows keeps them per monitor.

The plugin or the Stream Deck app was closed while a key counted down.
When the Stream Deck app closes, the plugin goes back to the previous layout first. If the plugin was ended abruptly, it goes back when it starts again, if that is within 2 minutes.

The keys show WAIT / starting, or Save shows FAILED "layouts not read".
When the plugin starts, it first reads its saved layouts from the Stream Deck app (and, if needed, brings back a layout it had not finished); until then a press does nothing. If the Stream Deck app does not give the saved layouts, the plugin does not save anything, because saving would replace, and so erase, the layouts saved before. Restart the Stream Deck app.

Does it work on Mac?
No. This plugin is for Windows 10 and 11 only.
