How to show products saved one per color as one item with color swatches in Shopify
If you saved each color of an item as its own product (for example T-shirt - Navy, T-shirt - Red), you can link them and show every color as a swatch with Iromi Color Swatches, a Shopify app that works without Shopify Plus. A shopper on the navy T-shirt sees the red and green swatches, and one tap opens the red T-shirt with its own price, photos and Add to cart.
What shoppers see
On the product page, a row of color swatches under the title. The current color is marked; the others are links to their own products.
After tapping a color, that color's product page: its price, its full photo gallery, its stock and its sizes. Add to cart is your theme's own button for that product, so the cart always holds the color the shopper chose.
Sold-out colors are marked on their swatch, so shoppers see at a glance which colors are available.
On product cards in collections and search results, small swatches under each product. Hovering a swatch shows that color's photo, and tapping it opens that color.
Why each color stays a separate product
Shopify gives each product one page, one URL, one set of photos and its own variants. Iromi Color Swatches keeps that. It does not merge your products or copy prices into a script, so nothing has to stay in sync:
The price shown is always the price of the product on the page, including sale prices and currency conversion done by your theme.
Each color keeps its own photos, description, URL, stock, sizes and reviews.
Your theme's Add to cart, product forms and other apps on the page keep working as before.
How to set it up
Install Iromi Color Swatches from the Shopify App Store and open it.
Click Create group, pick the products that are the same item in different colors, and give each a swatch name and color (or leave the color empty to use the product photo).
Click Add to product page. The theme editor opens with the swatch block added; click Save.
Click Turn on card swatches to show swatches on collection and search cards; click Save.
No theme code is changed: the swatches are a theme app block and an app embed, which you can move, restyle or switch off in the theme editor. Full steps and answers: Support and FAQ.
Good to know
It needs the Online Store sales channel and an Online Store 2.0 theme (tested on Dawn and Horizon).
A group can hold up to 50 products, and each product can belong to one group.
The swatch labels shoppers see come in English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and Swedish. The app's admin pages are in English.
