What is mahjong solitaire?
From a three-dimensional pile of mahjong tiles, remove identical tiles two at a time. There are no hands, yaku or scoring from the game of mahjong — all you do is find matching tiles. Clear every tile to win. Worldwide it's known as mahjong solitaire.
Which tiles are free, and how to play
- Spot the "free" tiles. A tile can be taken if nothing sits on top of it and its left or right edge is open.
- Remove a matching pair of free tiles. Pair up two identical free tiles and clear them.
- Break the top and edges first. Freeing tiles that sit on top or are wedged in opens up more moves.
- Mind the four-of-a-kind. With four identical tiles, which two you clear first changes what stays reachable.
- Shuffle if stuck. In Majoria, the board stays solvable even after a shuffle.
Mahjong solitaire can dead-end depending on how the tiles were dealt. We build layouts in reverse so that only fully-clearable deals are served, and we keep the board solvable after a shuffle.
