A live Elite Dangerous button box on your Stream Deck, with no profile to build
To set up a Stream Deck for Elite Dangerous without building a profile, add Ship Deck for Elite Dangerous and drag its keys onto your Stream Deck: they read the keybinds you already play with and each key shows and sends that keyboard key. The keys change color with the real state of your ship, such as landing gear, hardpoints, cargo scoop, lights, silent running, flight assist and the FSD, and controls bound only to your HOTAS or left empty are flagged on the key with a note on where to add a keyboard key.
Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later and Elite Dangerous on PC.
What you can do
Keys that light up with your ship: landing gear UP or DOWN, hardpoints DEPLOYED, cargo scoop OPEN, lights ON (SRV high beam too), night vision ON, silent running SILENT or OFF with a HOT frame when you overheat, FA ON or FA OFF, and HUD mode ANALYSIS or COMBAT.
Know your FSD state: READY, CHARGING, JUMPING, SUPERCRUISE, OVERDRIVE, SC ASSIST, COOLDOWN and MASS LOCK.
Skip building a profile: it reads the keybinds you already play with, a default preset or your Custom one, HOTAS and keyboard mixed, with separate presets for ship, SRV and on foot. Each key shows the key it sends, such as L or Ctrl+Del, and follows your changes within seconds.
See what is missing: controls bound only to your HOTAS or left empty say NO KEY on the key, and its settings say where to add a keyboard key in the game.
Any keyboard layout: keys follow the layout your keybinds were saved with (US, AZERTY, QWERTZ, Japanese and more), not your PC's. Keys in English and Japanese.
Ship, SRV and on foot: in the SRV and on foot, Lights, Night Vision, Cargo Scoop, HUD mode and the maps send the SRV or suit control instead, and the Panels & Maps key opens a cockpit panel, the galaxy or system map, or FSS and shows OPEN while it is on screen.
Fuel and route: main tank in percent with a bar, LOW FUEL in red and SCOOPING while you scoop; jumps left and the next system, or your selected target.
Status and suit: legal state (CLEAN, WANTED and more) with INTERDICTION, DANGER, OVERHEATING, HEAT WARNING and UNDER ATTACK, and in Odyssey your oxygen, health and cold or hot.
Runs on your PC only. It reads your own ship's status and your keybinds on the same PC, never changes them, and sends nothing over the network.
How it works
Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace and drag the keys you want onto your Stream Deck. Nothing to type: they read your game's keybinds.
Start Elite Dangerous and load your commander. The keys follow your ship by themselves.
If a key says NO KEY, open Options > Controls in the game and add a keyboard key as that control's primary or secondary binding; your HOTAS binding can stay.
One press of a Stream Deck key sends one key of your own bindings, as if you pressed it on your keyboard, by default only while the game is the active window.
Borderless Fullscreen Keys: Make a windowed game borderless fullscreen with one Stream Deck key, and put it back with another press.
Cab Deck for Train Sim World: Show Train Sim World speed limits and the next signal on Stream Deck keys, and work cab controls with a press.
Cockpit Gauges for War Thunder: Show War Thunder airspeed, altitude, fuel, engine temperatures and tank crew live on Stream Deck keys.
Crosshair Overlay for Games: Show a crosshair in the center of your screen over windowed and borderless games from a Stream Deck key.
Game Key Guard for Windows: Turn off the Windows key and Alt+Tab while you play with one Stream Deck key; press again to turn them back on.
Live Cockpit for X-Plane 12: Switch X-Plane 12 gear, flaps, autopilot and lights from Stream Deck keys that show their real state.
Questions
How do I set up a Stream Deck for Elite Dangerous?
Drag the keys of Ship Deck for Elite Dangerous onto your Stream Deck, start Elite Dangerous and load your commander. The keys read the keybinds you already play with, show the key each one sends and light up with your ship, with no profile to build.
My key says NO KEY. What do I do?
The Stream Deck sends keyboard keys, so the control needs a keyboard key in your control preset; HOTAS-only or empty controls show NO KEY. In the game open Options > Controls, find the control and add a keyboard key as its primary or secondary binding; your HOTAS binding can stay, and the key picks up the change within a few seconds.
Do I have to switch my preset to Custom?
No. The plugin reads the preset you play with: the presets the game ships, your custom presets, and different presets for ship, SRV and on foot.
Does it work with an AZERTY, QWERTZ or Japanese keyboard?
Yes. The game saves your keyboard layout in your bindings, and the plugin presses keys the way the game reads them in that layout, whatever layout your PC uses right now.
Does it play for me or press keys by itself?
No. One press of a Stream Deck key sends one key of your own bindings, as if you pressed it on your keyboard. It never presses anything by itself and has no macros.
Does it change my game files or bindings?
No. It only reads them.
Limits
Windows PC only (Windows 10 or later), not PlayStation or Xbox.
A control needs a keyboard key in your preset: joystick-only bindings say NO KEY. Controls set to Hold (not Toggle) in the game are not sent and say SET TO HOLD.
One press sends one key, by default only while the game is the active window (you can turn this off). No macros, no repeats. With a map, panel or menu open, only Panels & Maps sends.
In a fighter or taxi, ship-only keys say IN FIGHTER or IN TAXI and send nothing.
On foot the game does not report night vision or the flashlight, and it reports no heat percent, shields or hull, so those are not shown.
If the game runs as administrator, Windows blocks keys from Stream Deck: start it normally.
