A Stream Deck key that turns red when a scheduled task fails
To know when a Windows scheduled task fails, add Task Scheduler Monitor to your Stream Deck and put its Failed Tasks action on a key. It checks your scheduled tasks once a minute and shows how many failed their last run, so a broken backup, script or automation job gets noticed, and a press shows which tasks failed and their result codes.
Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later and Windows PowerShell (included with Windows).
What you can do
See failures at a glance: a green 0 / all OK when everything is fine, a red key with the count when something failed.
Know which ones: press to step through the failing tasks with name and result code (for example 0x1), newest first.
Watch what you care about: the top folder of the Task Scheduler Library (default), all folders except Microsoft, or all folders; only names starting with a given text; disabled tasks on or off.
Count only real failures: tasks that are running, queued or have not run yet do not count, per Microsoft's result codes.
Follow one task: Watch Task shows its last result, last run and next run. Press to check again.
Rerun from the key: an optional Run the task now on a Watch Task key (off by default).
Fits any scheduled job: made for anyone running scheduled jobs on Windows, including AI agents.
Runs entirely on your PC: it reads the task list and never changes or deletes a task. No account, no online service, no telemetry.
English and Japanese.
How it works
Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, drag Failed Tasks onto a key.
In the key's settings, choose which folders to watch and, if you like, a name prefix such as Backup_.
The key shows how many tasks failed their last run. Press it to see their names and result codes.
The plugin reads the task list through Windows PowerShell once a minute while a key is on screen, using the last result Windows Task Scheduler keeps for each task.
How do I know when a Windows scheduled task fails?
Put a Failed Tasks key on your Stream Deck. It checks your scheduled tasks once a minute and turns red with the number of tasks whose last run failed; press it to see their names and result codes.
Can I watch only my own tasks?
Yes. Use Name starts with to count only tasks whose name starts with a given text, for example a prefix such as My_ that you give your own tasks.
A task I fixed still counts as failed. Why?
The last result changes only when the task runs again. Run it once from Task Scheduler, or with a Watch Task key that has Run the task now on.
Can it run a task from the Stream Deck?
Yes, if you turn on Run the task now on a Watch Task key. It is off by default, and the plugin never changes or deletes a task.
Does it slow down my PC?
One small PowerShell process reads the list once a minute, and only while a key of this plugin is on screen.
Limits
It uses the last result Windows records: a run that was skipped leaves the last result unchanged, and a script that fails but ends with exit code 0 looks like a success.
Some programs use non-zero exit codes for success (for example robocopy); such tasks show as failed.
Tasks of other users or of the system may not be visible to your account.
Needs Windows PowerShell; if it is blocked by a company policy, the tasks cannot be read.
