Make any window see-through with one Stream Deck key
To make a window see-through from a Stream Deck, add Window Opacity Keys and press its Front Window Opacity key: the window in front goes to 80, 60, then 40 percent. Keep chat, notes or a video over your game or work while you still see what is behind it, make a window click-through, and press again to put it back.
Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later.
What you can do
Fade the window in front step by step: each press goes to 80, 60, 40 % (or your steps), then back. The key shows the percent Windows reports.
Click through a window: mouse clicks pass through it to whatever is underneath. The key shows which window it is and undoes it.
Change a whole app at once: App Opacity makes the visible windows of one app see-through.
Put everything back with one key: Restore Windows puts back the windows this plugin changed.
Always visible: opacity stays at 20 % or more, so every window stays visible.
Clean exit: when Stream Deck closes, changed windows are put back first, and if the plugin is killed, Restore Windows works after a restart.
Leaves your programs alone: it does not read or modify the memory or files of any program, injects nothing and sets no hook.
Runs on your PC; nothing is sent anywhere.
How it works
Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, drag Front Window Opacity onto a key, and put a Restore Windows key next to it.
Click the window you want to see through, so that it is in front. The key shows its name and 100%.
Press the key: the window goes to 80 %, then 60 %, then 40 %, and the next press puts it back as it was.
The plugin asks Windows to draw the window with an opacity (a layered window), and for Click-Through also to let the mouse pass through it.
How do I make a window transparent with a Stream Deck?
Click the window so it is in front, then press a Front Window Opacity key. Each press makes it more see-through (80, 60, 40 % by default, or your own steps), and the next press puts it back.
Can I click through a see-through window to my game?
Yes. A Click-Through key makes the window in front see-through (60 % by default) and lets mouse clicks pass through it to whatever is underneath. Press the same key again to put it back; you do not need to click the window.
How do I undo it if a window stays see-through?
Press the same Click-Through key again, or press a Restore Windows key: it puts back the windows the plugin changed. Quitting the Stream Deck app also puts them back.
The window goes behind my game when I click the game. Why?
The plugin changes the opacity only. Turn on always on top in that program if it has it.
Does it touch my game?
The plugin does not read or modify the memory or files of any program, injects nothing and sets no hook. Using it on a chat or notes window over a game leaves the game's window untouched.
Limits
Windows only (Windows 10 or later). Not for Mac.
Windows drawn with UpdateLayeredWindow are not supported; the key says NOT SUPPORTED and the window is left untouched.
It changes the opacity only; it does not keep a window on top of others.
It may not work with games in exclusive fullscreen, with programs that run as administrator (the key then says DENIED), on setups with several screens, or with games that use anti-cheat software.
Online games can have their own rules about tools like this: if you are unsure, check them, and use it on your chat or notes window rather than on the game's own window, which it then leaves untouched.
The actions are for keys; dials are not supported in this version.
