Snap, move and resize a window with one Stream Deck key
To snap a window with a Stream Deck key on Windows, add Window Position Keys and drag Snap Window onto a key: one press puts the window you are working in on the left half, the right half, a third, a quarter, the center or maximized. Press the same key again and the window goes back to where it was, at its old size, so you can try a place and step back with one press.
Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later, on Stream Deck keys.
What you can do
Halves, thirds, two thirds and quarters: pick the zone per key, plus center (its own size or 50 to 90% of the screen) and maximize.
Press again to put it back: the window returns to its old position and size, maximized or minimized too.
Edge to edge: the visible frame fills the zone, with the invisible border Windows adds allowed for, so snapped windows line up edge to edge.
Set size: Custom Position places a window in percent or pixels, like 1280 x 720 for a capture window.
Next Screen: send the window to the next or previous screen at the same place on it.
Any program: pick a program and words from its title, and the key moves that window even when it is behind or minimized, while the window you work in stays in front.
Next size for halves: a second press can step to 2/3 and 1/3 instead.
A small map on the key shows where the window goes and turns green when a press will put it back. Four looks: Map, Classic, Neon, Solid. English and Japanese.
Window positions and titles stay on your PC.
How it works
Install Window Position Keys from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, drag Snap Window, Custom Position or Next Screen onto a key.
Choose the zone (for example Left half) and, if you like, a program instead of the window in front.
Click the window you want to move and press the key. Press it again to put the window back.
The plugin reads where the window is before it moves it, so the next press can put it back where it was.
How do I snap a window to half the screen with a Stream Deck key?
Install Window Position Keys, drag Snap Window onto a key and choose Left half or Right half. Click the window you want to move and press the key: its visible frame fills that half of the screen.
Can I undo a snap?
Yes. Press the same key again while the window is still there, and it goes back to its old position and size, maximized or minimized too.
Can a key move a window that is not in front?
Yes. Set the key to a program, and optionally words from its title. The key moves that window even when it is behind other windows or minimized, and the window you work in stays in front.
Can I give a window a set size, like 1280 x 720?
Yes. Custom Position places the visible frame at a place and size you give, in percent of the screen or in pixels, counted from the top-left corner of the screen's usable area.
Does it work with several monitors?
Next Screen sends the window to the next or previous screen at the same place on it, and Snap Window can use the screen the window is on or a screen you choose.
Limits
A window of a program running as administrator may stay put unless Stream Deck runs as administrator too; the key shows ADMIN.
A window that fills the whole screen without a title bar (a full-screen game or video) is left as it is.
Programs that keep a minimum size of their own may stay larger than the zone.
Windows of a fixed size keep their size and go to the middle of the zone.
