Window Peek for Windows

See a window live on your Stream Deck, and know when it goes quiet

To keep an eye on a long build or an AI assistant from a Stream Deck, add Window Peek for Windows and choose the window: it shows live on a key, even when other windows cover it. An Alert When Idle key lights up when the window has stopped changing, so you know the job is done without switching windows.

Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later and Windows PowerShell 5.1, which is part of Windows.

What you can do

How it works

  1. Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, drag Peek Window onto a key.
  2. Open the window you want to see, select the key and choose the window from the list. Choose the part to show and how often a new picture is taken.
  3. For an alert, drag Alert When Idle onto a key, choose the window or region and how long it must stay still. The key blinks when the window goes quiet.

Captures are taken only while the key is visible and never while the PC is locked.

Questions

How do I know when a long build or an AI assistant has finished without watching the screen?

Add an Alert When Idle key and choose the window. Once the window has changed and then stayed still for the time you choose (5 seconds to 10 minutes), the key blinks amber. Press it to clear the alert and jump to the window.

Can I see a window on my Stream Deck even when it is behind other windows?

Yes. Peek Window shows the window live on the key even when other windows cover it, refreshed every 0.5 to 30 seconds. Press the key to bring the window to the front.

Can I watch only part of a window?

Yes. Choose a part (the whole window, a half, the bottom third or the middle), or use a Screen Region key to show any rectangle of your screen.

Are the pictures of my windows saved or sent anywhere?

No. They go only to the Stream Deck app to draw the key and are never written to disk. Apps that ask Windows not to be captured, such as some password managers and chat apps, are never shown.

Will the key find my window again after a restart?

Yes. The key remembers the program and part of the title, so it finds the window again after a restart.
