Black out a monitor, turn screens off, or start a sleep timer from a Stream Deck key
To black out a monitor from a Stream Deck, add Screen Blackout for Windows and press its Blackout Monitor key: the monitor you choose, for example the second screen of an OLED setup while you game, is covered with a black window. Another key turns every screen off, and a Sleep Timer key counts down on the key and puts the PC to sleep, shuts it down, turns the screens off or locks it at zero.
Stream Deck plugin · Works on Windows 10 or later with the Stream Deck app 6.9 or later and Windows PowerShell 5.1, which is part of Windows.
What you can do
Cover one monitor, or every monitor but the main one, with a black window. Press again, hold, or double-click the black area to uncover.
Keep playing: the black window stays out of the taskbar and Alt+Tab, avoids taking keyboard focus, so your game or app keeps your keyboard, and clicks on it do nothing.
Peek when you want: an option uncovers the monitor while the mouse is over it.
Turn all monitors off with Screens Off, as the Windows screen timeout does, optionally after locking the PC.
Start a Sleep Timer: each press adds time (for example 15 minutes) or starts a fixed time. The key shows mm:ss, h:mm from one hour up, and blinks in the last minute. Hold to cancel.
Choose what happens at zero: sleep, hibernate, shut down, screens off or lock.
One screen always stays visible, and the black window follows when monitors move or change resolution.
No account, no network, no telemetry. English and Japanese.
How it works
Install the plugin from the Elgato Marketplace. In the Stream Deck app, drag Blackout Monitor onto a key.
In the key's settings, choose a monitor or Every screen except the main one.
Press the key to cover the monitor, and press again to uncover it. Add Screens Off and Sleep Timer keys the same way.
The black window covers the picture while the monitor itself stays on; Screens Off turns the monitors off the way the Windows screen timeout does.
How do I black out my second monitor with a Stream Deck?
Drag Blackout Monitor onto a key, choose that monitor (or Every screen except the main one) in the key's settings, and press the key. Press again, hold the key, or double-click the black area to uncover it.
Will the black window take focus away from my game?
It is made not to take the keyboard focus, so the game or app you were using should stay in front and keep your keyboard. It is not in the taskbar or in Alt+Tab, and clicks on the black area do nothing.
Can I turn every screen off with one key?
Yes. Screens Off turns every monitor off, the same as after the screen timeout in the power settings, optionally after locking the PC. Move the mouse or press a key to turn them on again.
How does the sleep timer work?
Each press adds time, or starts a fixed time. The key counts down and blinks in the last minute, and at zero the PC sleeps, hibernates, shuts down, turns the screens off or locks, as you chose. Hold the key to cancel.
Does blacking out a monitor turn it off?
The black window covers the picture; the monitor itself stays on. Whether that helps an OLED monitor depends on the monitor, so check its manual.
Limits
The black window covers the picture; the monitor stays on.
On a covered monitor, a game in exclusive full screen, the mouse pointer, notifications and some always-on-top windows can still show.
A timer runs only while its key is shown; sleep or a restart cancels it.
Sleep needs classic sleep (S3). On Modern Standby PCs, choose hibernate, screens off or lock instead.
Some company PCs block Windows PowerShell, which the plugin needs.
