USB Drive Eject for Windows

Safely eject a USB drive from a Stream Deck key

To safely eject a USB drive from a Stream Deck, add USB Drive Eject for Windows and press its Eject Drive key twice: it sends the same request as "Safely Remove Hardware", without hunting for the icon in the Windows tray. If Windows refuses because the drive is in use, the key turns red and names the program that has files open on it, when Windows reports it.

Questions

How do I safely eject a USB drive with a Stream Deck button?

Drag Eject Drive onto a key and choose the drive letter, or Automatic. Press the key, then press again within 3 seconds. When the key shows a green frame and EJECTED, you can unplug the drive.

Windows says my USB drive is in use. How do I find out which program?

When Windows refuses, the key turns red, shows IN USE and names the program that has files open on the drive, when Windows reports it. Close the files or the program and press the key twice again.

Can I eject all my USB drives at once?

Yes. Eject All ejects every USB drive that can be ejected, one after another, with the same confirmation. If some cannot be ejected, the key shows how many worked and the reason for the first one that did not.

Can a single press eject a drive by accident?

No. Every eject needs a second press within 3 seconds or a 1 second hold, so a bump never ejects anything.

Will it eject my internal drive or the Windows drive?

No. It ejects USB drives only, and checks this twice. Internal drives, the Windows drive, drives holding the page file and card readers built into the PC are never ejected.
